Taylor Swift has broken a chart record with her latest No.1 album.
With the chart-topping debut for Lover (Live From Paris), Swift has moved ahead of Madonna to become the female artist with the most No.1 albums in the UK ever.
Swift is now equal with Elvis Presley as the international artist with most No.1 albums in UK chart history. The Beatles and Robbie Williams are out in front with 15 each.
ARTISTS WITH MOST UK NO.1 ALBUMS
Lover (Live From Paris), originally released in limited quantity in 2023, has soared to the summit thanks to a new, heart-shaped 2LP vinyl variant released in time for Valentine’s Day. It registered 46,812 physical sales, according to the Official Charts Company.
The Official Charts confirmed that Island EMI are the first record label group since digital records began (week 5, 1994) to secure the No.1 spot simultaneously across the UK’s singles chart (Messy by Lola Young), albums chart (Swift) and compilation chart (Wicked) for two consecutive weeks.
It marks only the fourth time this millennium that a record label group has managed the treble.
With the airplay No.1 for Messy, the company has had a fortnight of quadruple No.1s.
According to charts data, Lover (Live From Paris) has the biggest weekly sales for a live vinyl album this century.
Unavailable as a download or on DSPs, Lover (Live From Paris) becomes the first album to reach No.1 on pure sales (with no streams contributing to its total) in eight years, since Swift’s Reputation in 2017. Reputation was added to streaming services three weeks after its initial release on physical and download formats.
Lover (Live From Paris), recorded at the Olympia in the French capital, also came out on top of the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.
The live album has the biggest total weekly sales for an album so far this year. It also has the biggest first week sales for a live album in over 10 years in the UK, since George Michael’s Symphonica in March 2014.
Martin Talbot, CEO, Official Charts Company, said: “If we thought Taylor Swift would peak in 2024, with her domination of the charts during the summer, we couldn't have been more wrong. What an amazing achievement to surpass the albums chart record of Madonna, such a huge music icon.”
