Boutique music rights company MusicBird has unveiled its third investment in six months with the catalogue of Scottish musician Dougie Thomson, bassist of Supertramp.
The deal includes the master royalty income from Thomson’s recordings with Supertramp, including hits such as Goodbye Stranger, Give A Little Bit and Breakfast In America’.
“Reflecting its focus on targeted and efficient dealmaking, the company’s latest transaction adds further income and genre diversification to its growing portfolio of proven hits,” said a statement.
The company manages its music collection, comprising more than 2,000 songs from several hundred artists, in partnership with publishers, labels and other industry stakeholders. MusicBird said it aims to deliver “significant revenue and capital value growth to its investors”.
Formed in 1970, Supertramp were a British rock band that sold more than 60 million albums. These recordings have collectively generated billions of global streams, underlining their continued popularity decades later.
Dougie Thomson was a member of Supertramp’s classic line-up and remained an integral part of the band for seven albums over 15 years up until 1988. He contributed to a string of landmark records, including Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments… and Breakfast in America. The latter became one of the bestselling albums of all time, winning two Grammy Awards, while its lead single The Logical Song received the 1979 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
