Metallica have attained new RIAA certifications for a pair of classic albums.
Metallica’s self-titled fifth album, also known as The Black Album, has been certified 20 times platinum in the US for sales in excess of 20 million copies.
Furthermore, the band’s third full-length, Master of Puppets, has been certified eight times platinum in the US having crossed the eight million mark.
The Black Album (1991) hit No.1 in 10 countries, including a four-week run at No.1 in the US. It includes the singles Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Wherever I May Roam and Sad But True.
Master of Puppets, the title track to the 1986 album, recently followed Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters as the third Metallica song to join the billion streams club.
Metallica are currently on their M72 World Tour, which has seen the band play to more than three million fans across the globe. The M72 shows have been record-breaking attendance records, including Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium and the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York.
The tour will return to Europe in 2026, including dates in the UK at Glasgow, Hampden Park (June 25), Cardiff, Principality Stadium (June 28) and London Stadium (July 3 and 5).
