UMPG signs composer, producer and artist Daniel Lopatin

Universal Music Publishing Group has signed award-winning composer, producer and artist Daniel Lopatin to worldwide deal through the company’s Classics & Screen division.

Lopatin is best known under the moniker Oneohtrix Point Never. His genre-defying body of work spans solo albums, experimental scores, gallery installations and collaborations with some of the most influential artists in modern music including FKA Twigs, Charli XCX, James Blake, David Byrne, Iggy Pop and Anohni.

In film, Lopatin’s long-standing creative relationship with filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie saw him compose the original scores for Good Time and Uncut Gems. He is currently working with Josh Safdie on the A24 feature Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet.

Lopatin has continued to blur the lines between electronic production and film scoring. He executive produced The Weeknd’s 2022 chart-topping album Dawn FM, along with co-writing and producing on The Weeknd’s most recent release Hurry Up Tomorrow.

As well as releasing his 10th solo album Again (Warp, 2023), he served as the executive producer for the score of The Curse (Showtime/A24), created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie.

Daniel Lopatin said: “I’m genuinely touched by Natasha Baldwin’s belief in my work and grateful for the dedication of the entire team at UMPG. To know that my music is embraced with such commitment and care is the foundation any artist hopes to build upon. I’m thrilled to get started.”

Natasha Baldwin, president of Global Classics & Screen at UMPG and UMG, said: “We have long been great admirers of Dan’s prolific work across composing, songwriting, producing and scoring, and it is with genuine excitement that we join in supporting Dan on this next phase of his admirable musical journey.”

Lopatin joins the company’s global composer roster, which includes Nicholas Britell, Isobel Waller-Bridge, Max Richter, Hildur Gudnadóttir, James Newton-Howard, David Lynch, and more.

The division is home to catalogues such as Ricordi (Italy), Durand/Salabert-Eschig (France) and EMB (Hungary), representing composers ranging from Puccini and Messiaen to David Lang, Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon.

Anna Jaskiewicz, UMPG senior director of Classics & Screen, added: “Working with Daniel over a decade ago, it was clear he was operating on a completely unique frequency. To see how his work has evolved – from the underground to soundtracking cinema and shaping pop culture – is truly inspiring. Welcoming him into the UMPG family is both an honour and incredible opportunity and we look forward to supporting one of the most forward-thinking and influential artists of our generation.”
