Songwriter Jamie Scott and manager Rick Wilson launch music publishing venture Writers

Songwriter, producer and artist Jamie Scott and his longtime manager and business partner Rick Wilson have launched music publishing venture Writers.

It follows more than a decade of collaboration through their previous company, Catherine Songs.

With over 20 years in the music industry, Jamie Scott is an Ivor Novello-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter whose global impact includes 100 million albums and singles. He has co-written hits for and with Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, One Direction, Calvin Harris, Rag’n’Bone Man, David Guetta, and more.

As the principal songwriter for One Direction, he penned over 30 released tracks. In the UK alone, his work has appeared on 31 Top 10 Albums and nine Top 10 Singles – including 14 No.1 Albums and three No.1 Singles.

Collaborations through Catherine Songs included This Town by Niall Horan, Little Bit Of Love by Tom Grennan (written by Mike Needle and Dan Bryer), Breaking Me by Topic and A7S, and Control by Zoe Wees written by René Miller.

“Writers launches with strong backing, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to building a future-facing creative hub that champions career longevity and forging meaningful collaborations across the industry,” said a statement.

Jamie Scott and Rick Wilson will be continuing their longstanding relationship with David Ventura, Tim Major, Felix Canetty-Clarke, and the rest of the Sony Music Publishing team.

In a statement, co-founders Jamie Scott and Rick Wilson said: "We have spent years building careers for gifted songwriters, and this new venture is the natural next step in that journey. At Writers Music Publishing, we’re building a true creative community – somewhere songwriters belong, feel heard and have a real voice in their future. Our goal is to champion great talent, foster collaboration and trust, and provide the ongoing support writers need to reach new heights and shape the next generation of songwriting.”

David Ventura, president, co-MD and SVP international, Sony Music Publishing UK, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the 14-year relationship we’ve shared with Jamie, Rick and the exceptional roster they’ve built. I’m excited to see them take this next step with Writers and to continue the great work we’ve all been doing together. All of us at Sony are looking forward to what’s ahead.”

Writers also forms part of a broader vision that includes copyright acquisition, with immediate plans to establish a London headquarters – complete with studios and dedicated A&R offices – to serve as a creative hub for both established and emerging talent.
