Primary Wave has reportedly acquired Britney Spears’ share of her catalogue.
The acquisition – agreed on December 30 – was in the region of $200 million. Justin Bieber’s catalogue reportedly sold to Hipgnosis for a similar amount.
It follows a wave of catalogue deals for artists across the industry in recent years including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Queen and Pink Floyd.
Primary Wave has been active in catalogue acquisitions, as well as estate deals for acts including Notorious BIG, Whitney Houston and Peter Green.
The details of the deal, first reported by TMZ, have not been disclosed. Primary Wave’s deals have typically included an artist’s share of royalties for music publishing, recordings and neighbouring rights in catalogues.
Britney Spears did not have songwriting credits on many of her biggest hits, though she is listed as a co-writer on dozens of her recordings including Madonna collaboration Me Against The Music.
Sony Music continues to control the rights to Spears’ recorded music catalogue.
Spears has sold an estimated 150 million records worldwide. Her catalogue includes nine studio albums since her debut in 1999.
Primary Wave has yet to comment on the reported deal.
