Primary Wave Music has signed a deal with the estate of Peter Green.
The UK singer-songwriter and guitarist, who died in 2020, was the founder and original lead of Fleetwood Mac, originally called Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac.
Terms of the deal will see the publisher acquire Green’s Rattlesnake music publishing catalogue, and his interest in all compositions written by him, as well as certain recordings by the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
Peter Green wrote or contributed to many of Fleetwood Mac’s successful songs, all included in this deal, such as Albatross, Black Magic Woman and Oh Well, among others. Albatross remains Fleetwood Mac’s only No.1 hit in the UK, reaching the summit in 1969.
A cover of Black Magic Woman became a staple for Santana and his version spent 13 weeks on the US Hot 100 chart. It was included on Santana’s 1970 album Abraxas, which sold more than four million copies.
Oh Well reached No.2 in the UK for Fleetwood Mac in 1969 and charted on the Hot 100 in the US, the band’s first single to do so.
Green was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
Primary Wave’s Robin Godfrey-Cass said: “When I look at the definition of a musical genius, Peter Green ticks every box. As a musician, songwriter and founder of Fleetwood Mac, he is an icon. It has been over 60 years ago since he began writing his body of legendary songs which are still in use every day. I am ecstatic that the estate has given Primary Wave the reins to continue his amazing legacy.”
