Radio 1 aims to boost breaking acts and grassroots venues as New Music Live hits Cardiff

BBC Radio 1 has announced the return of its New Music Live event, with Aled Hadyn Jones emphasising the station’s support for both emerging artists and grassroots venues. 

The event will take place at Tramshed in Cardiff on Wednesday, September 24, hosted by Jack Saunders, Daniel P Carter, Alyx Holcombe and Sian Eleri, with Florence Road, Jools, Keo and Panic Shack on the bill.

Irish group Florence Road have been supported by Saunders, Eleri and BBC Introducing, while Leicester band Jools have featured on BBC Introducing Rock, Radio 1’s Indie Show, Future Artists and Radio 1’s Rock Show.

London fourpiece Keo have also been supported by Saunders and Eleri, with Cariff-based band Panic Shack have featured on Future Artists as well as the station’s Rock and Indie shows.

Aled Haydn Jones, head of Radio 1, said: “After the huge success of Radio 1’s New Music Live last year, we’re thrilled to be bringing it back bigger to Tramshed in Cardiff for 2025. We’re proud to continue supporting local emerging artists and venues. At a challenging time for small music venues, we remain committed to champion these essential cultural spaces, while spotlighting some exciting acts. We can’t wait to share an unforgettable night with our Radio 1 audience in Tramshed!”

Florence Road said: “We’re really looking forward to being part of BBC Radio 1’s New Music Live in Cardiff. It’s great to be given this kind of platform as a new artist. First time playing in the city too, so it should be a special one. See you there. Flo Ro.”

Jools added: “We’re so excited to be playing Radio 1 New Music Live alongside three incredible bands. Radio 1 have been so supportive of our journey as a band and it’s an honour to be involved with a night like this. See you in the pit!!!”

Keo commented: “Looking forward to playing in our first show in Cardiff this September with Radio 1!” 

Panic Shack said: “We are hyped to be playing Radio 1’s New Music Live, and we’re especially hyped that the show is in our hometown of Cardiff!! Excited to play all the bangers from our brand spanking new debut album!”

Tickets are available now, with Radio 1 also set to broadcast live from Tramshed Cardiff on the night, with performances available live and on demand via iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
