"This is rare for a UK rock band": Biffy Clyro manager Paul Craig salutes their fourth No.1

Biffy Clyro manager Paul Craig, of Nostromo Management, has praised the group's “hugely special” achievement as the UK rock act secured their fourth No.1.

Friday, September 26, saw the Warner Records-signed Scottish group hit the top spot with their new record Futique. Their first album in nearly four years, it debuted atop the chart on consumption of 32,043 units according to Official Charts Company data.

“I’m immensely proud that Biffy have achieved yet another truly significant milestone in their fantastic career,” said manager Paul Craig. “For a UK rock band to secure four No.1 albums is something rare and hugely special.”

Simon Neil’s songwriting on Futique is yet another example of him being one of the UK’s true greats and deserving of recognition

Having racked this up, according to Music Week chart analyst Alan Jones, the only Scottish act to have more No.1s than Biffy Clyro is now “Simple Minds, who have had five – although Annie Lennox has had two solo and three with English bandmate Dave Stewart as Eurythmics.”

Craig went on to praise singer/guitarist Simon Neil’s songwriting on the record.

“Simon Neil’s songwriting on Futique is yet another example of him being one of the UK’s true greats and deserving of recognition,” he continued. “I’ll never forget being instantly struck by the level of emotion in Goodbye when I first heard it, particularly considering this is the same songwriter behind songs like Cop Syrup.”

Futique’s opening sales are 98.33% higher than its immediate predecessor, 2021’s The Myth Of Happily Ever After, and the biggest weekly tally secured by the band since Ellipsis opened with 37,308 sales in 2016.

Their biggest ever first week sale came in 2013, when their sixth album, Opposites racked up an impressive 71,584 opening. Their 2009 No.3 album Only Revolutions is, however, their most-consumed title with a to-date tally of 878,302.

Craig went on to tell Music Week that the band are already planning a long campaign, with much more to come after week one.

“Biffy, as a band, go from strength to strength and we only look forward,” he concluded. “This campaign is far from over and we look ahead to a huge UK arena run in January, with lots more to come. Thanks to everyone in the Biffy family who have worked so hard and for all our amazing partners who have supported us on this journey.”
