LW Entertainment appoints David Joseph to board

LW Entertainment has appointed David Joseph CBE, CEO of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), to the board of LW Entertainment as non-executive director.

“Joseph brings a wealth of experience and expertise to LW Entertainment as it manages Andrew Lloyd Webber’s extensive catalogue, broadening exploitation across wider entertainment sectors throughout the world,” said a statement.

Prior to his role at the RSA, David Joseph was chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group UK from 2008 to 2024.

Joseph has been a long-term collaborator of Andrew Lloyd Webber and the wider Lloyd Webber family. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s catalogue was managed by Universal Music Group for over 25 years.

As well as chairing several BRIT Award shows, Joseph was also an executive producer of the Oscar and BAFTA-winning 2015 Amy documentary. He served on the National Council of Arts Council England for eight years and is currently chair of the Grenfell Foundation.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said: “I am thrilled that David Joseph has agreed to join the board of LW Entertainment. David has been a vital friend and colleague throughout his time at Universal Music Group. His unrivalled knowledge of the music industry will be of enormous value to the company. I could not be more delighted.”

Madeleine Lloyd Webber, group president of LW Entertainment and LW Theatres, said: “We are incredibly honoured that David has agreed to join our board. His popularity and years of experience in the entertainment business is second to none. I am truly delighted he’s joining our talented team to help deliver our ambitious plans. However, most importantly he has been a trusted friend and mentor to the Lloyd Webber family for many years.”

David Joseph said: "It is a privilege to join LW Entertainment’s board and to work with Andrew, Madeleine and the family at a pivotal moment for this exceptional company. It has consistently pushed creative boundaries, and its ambition for the next chapter is truly unrivalled."

This move comes after LW Entertainment (formerly The Really Useful Group) announced a global rebrand as part of a strategic move to deliver on plans across the theatrical, live and wider entertainment industry.

It includes a worldwide publishing programme with Penguin Random House, an equity investment in theatrical producing partner GWB Entertainment UK and a significant deal to develop anime around Phantom Of The Opera.
