Gen Z music fans spending £425 a year on live music

New research conducted by discount and voucher website MyVoucherCodes has revealed the scale of live music expenditure among music fans.

The average UK music fan has splashed out £318 on live music tickets over the last 12 months, while 18-24 year olds are spending £425, according to the research.

Almost four in 10 (39%) attended a gig or concert in the past year, which rises to 54% among 18-24 year-olds.

However, for many fans, the cost of attending is becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

The survey found that 14% of concert-goers have used Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services such as Klarna, PayPal or Clearpay to cover ticket costs – a figure that jumps to almost a quarter (24%) among 25 to 34 year-olds.

The research also uncovered generational trends. One in 10 (10%) of 45-54 year olds who attend gigs have travelled abroad to see an artist.

The study also shows 58% of 18-34 year-olds film part of the event on their phones, compared to just 18% of over-55s.

Almost eight in 10 (79%) concert-goers agree that everyday fans are being priced out of attending live events.

Sarah-Jane Outten, money and lifestyle expert at MyVoucherCodes, said: "2025 has been a momentous year for concerts in the UK. The industry's biggest

names, from Oasis to Stevie Wonder, have drawn in fans. But the data shows the cost of these gigs is pricing out loyal fans. The reliance on BNPL and the search for

cheaper tickets highlights a clear affordability issue that the industry needs to address if it wants to remain accessible to all music lovers.”
