Universal Music Group (UMG), SJM Concerts, Live Nation and Sony Music UK have collectively donated £55,000 to global feminist organisation The Circle.
The companies came together to raise funds for The Circle’s Empowerment Fund in the run-up to International Women’s Day.
The Circle was co-founded by Annie Lennox, among others, and the Empowerment Fund supports women and girls confronting gender-based violence and economic injustice around the world. Donations can be made here.
A gathering to mark the occasion was hosted by Universal Music Group, following last year’s event by Sony Music UK. It was attended by senior women from the donor companies, as well as those from the wider industry, including DawBell.
UMG execs Rebecca Allen and Ange Pattico hosted a panel discussion (below), in which they were joined by Raakhi Shah, CEO of The Circle, and Delphine Uwamahoro, founder of Our Sisters’ Opportunity, one of The Circle’s grassroots partners.

This follows collaborations between The Circle and the music industry, including Sisters: Annie Lennox and Friends Royal Albert Hall, activations at Wilderness Festival and a music auction featuring artists such as Billie Eilish.
The Circle is also running a campaign addressing violence against women called Make A Stand for 1 in 3, that has featured signatories such as Chappel Roan, Hozier, Brandi Carlile, Paloma Faith, PinkPantheress, Rita Ora, Skin, Will Young and many more.
