Universal Music Greater China unveils key appointments for brand partnerships and business affairs

Universal Music Greater China has named Cora Lam as head of legal and business affairs and Mark Gao as senior vice president of brand partnerships.

Both executives will be based in Hong Kong, reporting directly to Timothy Xu, chairman & CEO of Universal Music Greater China, with their appointments effective immediately.

In her newly created role, Cora Lam will oversee all legal and business affairs across the Greater China region, covering both commercial and corporate practices. With over two decades of experience in the music and entertainment industry, she has expertise in M&A, corporate governance and deal-making.

Prior to joining UMGC, Lam served as general counsel & SVP of legal and business affairs for Warner Music Asia, overseeing 11 markets across the region. She led major transactions including the acquisition and integration of Gold Typhoon’s catalogue and artist roster, and negotiated agreements with global digital platforms, artists and brand partners.

Earlier in her career, Lam held senior roles at EMI Music Asia. She is a qualified solicitor in both Hong Kong SAR and England & Wales.

This follows the personal decision of Patsy Chan, SVP, head of legal and business affairs for Asia, to embark on a new chapter after more than two decades of service. She will remain with the company until the end of the year to focus on Southeast Asia and ensure a seamless transition.

Mark Gao will lead UMGC’s brand partnerships strategy, focusing on building collaborations that connect music with lifestyle, sports and culture. He has more than 25 years of leadership experience across international sports, entertainment and media.

Gao was previously the founder & CEO of Momentum Sports. As president of CAA Sports China, he expanded the agency’s footprint with major partnerships and sponsorship programmes. Earlier in his career, as vice president of NBA China, he played a pivotal role in strengthening the league’s brand presence and commercial performance.

Timothy Xu, chairman & chief executive officer of Universal Music Greater China, said: “The expansion of our leadership team reflects our commitment to building a stronger foundation for UMGC’s future. Cora’s deep expertise in legal and business affairs and Mark’s proven ability to create transformative brand partnerships will significantly enhance our management capabilities. Together, they will play vital roles in delivering greater value to our artists and partners, while driving forward our long-term vision for sustainable growth. I would also like to sincerely thank Patsy Chan for her more than 20 years of dedication, and we wish her every success as she embarks on the next chapter of her career.”

Cora Lam, head of legal and business affairs, UMGC, said: “It is a privilege to take on this role at such a dynamic time. I look forward to working closely with Timothy and our colleagues to provide strategic legal and business support, strengthen our governance, and help build a solid foundation for our artists and the company’s continued success across the region.”

Mark Gao, senior vice president, brand partnerships, UMGC, said: “I am truly excited to be joining Universal Music Greater China. Having spent the past 25 years in sports and entertainment, I am inspired to now bring that experience into music – an art form with unmatched power to connect and inspire people. I look forward to working with Timothy and the team to create partnerships that not only generate commercial success, but also deliver cultural impact that benefits artists, brands and fans alike.”
