Radiohead’s Ed O'Brien is to release his second solo album, Blue Morpho, via new label home Transgressive.
Produced by Paul Epworth (Paul McCartney, Adele), Blue Morpho is released on May 22. The title track is out now.
It follows the release of O’Brien’s 2020 debut solo album, Earth. Last year he played European arena dates with Radiohead.
Blue Morpho was recorded between O’Brien’s studio in Wales and The Church Studios in London. Epworth became a key collaborator alongside engineer Riley MacIntyre, while saxophonist and composer Shabaka Hutchings contributed flutes.
Composer Tõnu Kõrvits arranged strings performed by the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.

An accompanying short film, Blue Morpho: The Three Act Play, will be released alongside the album.
"Ed has created a truly important album; uniquely cultivated sonics, devastatingly honest lyrics and a healing listening experience that bears repeating,” said Tim Dellow, Transgressive co-founder. “For Transgressive, working with someone who we've long since admired, has already been an honour and a joy, and his openness to ideas, generosity of spirit and sincere approach to convey this album to a wide audience is humbling and exciting. It feels like a very natural union for us here, and we're excited to build on this long term relationship together.”
“We’re delighted to partner with Transgressive for the release of Blue Morpho,” said James Sandom, Red Light Management UK founder. “From first discussion, Transgressive understood Ed’s vision and the inspiration underpinning this body of work. Coming together is just the beginning, our future work delivering on this understanding and bringing this special record to the world in the manner intended will be the real achievement.”
