Stereophonics’ first album in partnership with EMI has maintained their No.1 run.
Make ’Em Laugh, Make Em Cry, Make Em Wait is the Welsh band’s third consecutive chart-topper and ninth overall in a 28-year career on the albums rankings.
Stereophonics 13th studio opened at No.1 with sales of 31,195 units (21,551 CDs, 7,161 vinyl albums, 1,323 digital downloads and 1,160 sales-equivalent streams). Make ’Em Laugh had a 29.62% bigger first week than Oochya!, their previous album released in 2022.

As revealed in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, Stereophonics are the 20th act in chart history to have at least nine No.1 albums. The only groups to have more are The Beatles (15), the Rolling Stones (12, or 14 if the expanded versions of Exile On Main Street and Goats Head Soup are included), U2 (11), ABBA (10), Queen (10) and Coldplay (10).
“Stereophonics are one of the crown jewels in British music and to be celebrating their ninth No.1 album is a truly staggering achievement,” said Island EMI president Louis Bloom. “Their continued success is a testament not only to their ability as songwriters, but to that chemistry, that alchemy that has marked the careers of so many great British groups.
“Their enduring appeal is also due, in no small part, to the incredible affection and loyalty that their fans feel for them. Huge respect to the team at Island EMI who have helped deliver this fantastic result and here’s to more great music and more No.1 albums from this amazing band.”
