Space Shower Fuga JV names Satoshi Tanaka as CEO

Space Shower Fuga, a joint venture between Space Shower Networks of Japan and Fuga, has appointed Satoshi Tanaka as its new CEO.

Tanaka has been a member of the company’s board of directors since July 2022 and has played a key role in driving its operations. The appointment is effective July 1.

Tanaka has spent nearly two decades at Space Shower Networks, where he facilitated content production, international business development and corporate planning.

As CEO, he will continue to oversee all client acquisition and business development for the company.

Space Shower Fuga was created to serve Japan’s music rights-holders with global infrastructure and local insight”, said Satoshi Tanaka. “Moving forward, I’m committed to furthering our mission by deepening partnerships and delivering long-term value across the music ecosystem.”

Through its flagship television channel, Space Shower TV, the company has maintained close ties with Japan’s independent and emerging music scenes.

In recent years, Space Shower has expanded its activities to include artist management, publishing, digital content services, and large-scale music festivals, such as hip-hop festival Pop Yours and the long-running rock event Sweet Love Shower.

Space Shower’s involvement in music distribution traces back to its 2004 acquisition of BounDee (previously 3D System), one of Japan’s early digital distribution pioneers.

The company also partnered with Skiyaki in 2022, creating synergy between digital distribution and Japan’s fan club sector.

Space Shower Fuga was launched in 2021 to combine the strengths of Space Shower’s deep local network and brand influence with Downtown-owned Fuga’s global infrastructure and technology. The joint venture provides advanced digital distribution, royalty reporting and promotional services tailored to Japan’s market environment.

The collaboration offers artists and rights-holders access to global DSPs and monetisation tools, while also addressing the needs of the domestic market through localised solutions.

“The formation of Space Shower Fuga was an unprecedented move in the industry, seeing a joint venture company created between an international independent distributor and a local distribution partner in Japan,” said a statement. “As a result, Space Shower Fuga serves as a bridge between Japanese music culture and the global music ecosystem, enabling clients to scale their reach while retaining creative control and operational flexibility.”

Christiaan Kröner, president, Fuga, said: “It’s been an honour working alongside Tanaka-san, and I have no doubt he will continue to thrive in his new role as CEO. His leadership, vision, and deep understanding of Space Shower Fuga will help shape the company’s next chapter and future growth. Sato-san has brought the company a long way during his time as CEO, his impact has been truly significant, and I look forward to seeing him continue to guide our direction in his new role as chairman.”

Koichi Sato, who previously served as CEO since the company’s inception in 2021, has assumed the role of chairman of the board as of July 1.

During his tenure, he played a key role in laying the foundation for the company’s growth by securing its initial client base and establishing Space Shower Fuga’s presence in the market.

Under this new leadership structure, Space Shower Fuga will continue to deliver digital distribution services tailored to the unique needs of the Japanese market. Combined with the client base originally developed by Space Shower Networks, the company now serves around 2,000 clients – including independent labels, artist management companies and rights-holders – across a broad range of genres and business models.
