'She's leading the way for creativity in pop and beyond': Atlantic's Ed Howard on Charli XCX's No.1

Charli XCX has landed a third consecutive No.1 album with the Wuthering Heights soundtrack (Atlantic).

The soundtrack to Emerald Fennell’s movie adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novels follows chart-topping results for 2022’s Crash and 2024’s Brat. All eight of Charli XCX’s albums have reached the Top 40.

Wuthering Heights was chased throughout the week by Olivia Dean’s The Art Of Loving, but the streaming volume for Charli XCX’s LP saw it home.

The soundtrack opened with consumption of 21,071 units (including 12,503 physical copies, 488 downloads and 8,080 sales-equivalent streams), according to the Official Charts Company. The physical result secured a No.1 on the vinyl albums chart.

"We're incredibly proud to celebrate Charli's latest amazing achievement,” Atlantic co-president Ed Howard told Music Week. “Moving seamlessly from the cultural phenomenon of Brat to bringing industrial electronica, jagged strings and power ballads to the world of Wuthering Heights is further testament to Charli's versatility and talent.

“She's leading the way for creativity in pop music, and well beyond, and we can't wait to see where she takes us next. As always, huge thanks and congrats on this No.1 to Charli and everyone who worked on the album here and around the world."

There was also a slight boost for Brat on the albums rankings, which moved 45-38. As reported in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, Brat has remained on the chart ever since its debut 90 weeks ago, never falling below No.53. It has amassed consumption to date of 553,144 units.

The soundtrack release triggered a re-entry at No.17 (17,619 sales) for its earlier single, Chains Of Love, which previously peaked at No.26. There were also new entries for Dying For You (No.27, 13,082 sales) and Always Everywhere (No.33, 11,354 sales), raising Charli XCX’s career hit tally to 37 songs.

The No.1 album result coincides with the UK cinema release of Charli XCX’s film The Moment.
