Sabrina Carpenter breaks chart record with Short N' Sweet album

Sabrina Carpenter has broken a chart record with her Short N’ Sweet album (Polydor).

In the latest chart week, Short N’ Sweet climbed a place to No.3 to secure 43 consecutive weeks in the Top 5. As a result, the US star has eclipsed the 42 consecutive weeks for Ed Sheeran’s = (Equals) to claim the record for longest unbroken Top 5 run in the 21st century.

Carpenter also holds the overall chart record for a Top 5 run by a female solo artist, surpassing the 41 weeks in a row that Shania Twain’s Come On Over spent in the Top 5 in 1999/2000. She could also be considered to hold the overall record for all solo artists depending on how an Elvis Presley record is classified (see below). But if she remains in the Top 5 for another fortnight, that record will not be in doubt.

Short N’ Sweet has so far amassed consumption of 712,347 units (557,705 sales-equivalent streams, 150,495 physical copies and 4,147 downloads), according to the Official Charts Company.

As revealed in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, only three artist albums in all of chart history have spent more consecutive weeks in the Top 5 – Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water (84 weeks, 1970/1971), The Beatles’ Please Please Me (55 weeks, 1963/1964) and Elvis Presley’s soundtrack set, GI Blues (44 weeks, 1960/1961). Several multi-artist soundtracks have also spent more than 43 weeks in the Top 5.

The chart record for the Short N’ Sweet album follows Sabrina Carpenter’s fourth UK No.1 single with Manchild, which dips a place to No.2 this week.

Following her BRITs performance and UK arena shows, Carpenter returns to headline BST Hyde Park on July 5-6.

Jodie Cammidge, managing director at Polydor Label Group, said: "Sabrina is having another phenomenal moment, and it makes me so happy to see how much love she’s getting in the UK. Debuting at No.1 with her latest single and breaking this new album chart record is an extraordinary achievement – a testament to her incredible talent and the brilliant work from the teams at Polydor, Island US and Volara Management. With a new album coming in August and sold-out Hyde Park shows ahead, it’s shaping up to be another Sabrina summer – and we’re so proud to be part of it."
