Polydor secures chart double with Sabrina Carpenter's deluxe album and Kendrick Lamar's first No.1

Polydor Label Group has secured the chart double this week with a pair of US stars – Kendrick Lamar and Sabrina Carpenter.

Sabrina Carpenter returned to No.1 for her third spell at the summit with Short N’ Sweet. With the release of the deluxe edition, the album’s consumption increased by 242.8% week-on-week to 34,091 units. In the Top 5 continuously since release, it has consumption to date of 477,986, according to the Official Charts Company.

In the singles chart, a new version of Please Please Please with Dolly Parton helped the track re-enter at No.9 (28,390 sales), just ahead of new track Busy Woman (No.10, 28,363 sales), Carpenter’s 11th hit in all and fifth Top 10 entry. Last year’s No.6 hit Bed Chem rebounded 25-18 (18,159 sales).

In the singles chart, Kendrick Lamar landed his first chart-topper with Not Like Us, which surged to the summit in the wake of the US rap star’s Grammys wins and Super Bowl Performance.

Consumption for Not Like Us increased 14.6% week-on-week as the track climbed from 2-1 with 52,507 chart units based on around 6.4 million streams in the past week. It has consumption to date of 771,722.

As revealed in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, there were even bigger increases in consumption for his SZA collaborations Luther and All The Stars, which joined Not Like Us in the Top 5.

Lamar’s No.1 album GNX remains in the Top 10, while his catalogue has seen a boost.

Polydor had seven tracks in the Top 10 and 12 in the Top 20.

Jodie Cammidge, managing director, Polydor Label Group, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating a chart double this week at Polydor with Kendrick Lamar’s first-ever UK No.1 single and Sabrina Carpenter’s No.1 album. It’s amazing to see the overwhelming response to Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance and his continued innovation. Our partners at Interscope Records in the US, along with the team at pgLang, are doing such phenomenal work.

“Personally, I feel incredibly fortunate that my time at Polydor has aligned with working with him, and with massive UK stadium shows ahead this summer, we are not slowing down!

“Sabrina’s incredible rise has been truly remarkable, and huge credit goes to Island Records in the US and her fantastic management team – Janelle, Amy, and Merce at Volara. Putting the album back to No.1 six months after it was released is perfectly timed with her returning to the UK to perform at the BRIT Awards next week and the start of her sold-out arena tour."
