Lady Gaga has debuted at No.1 with Mayhem (Polydor), her sixth chart-topper.
Mayhem opened at the summit with 55,577 units (20,937 CDs, 13,339 vinyl albums, 1,883 cassettes, 2,463 digital downloads and 16,955 sales-equivalent streams), according to the Official Charts Company.
The album has secured the second fastest opening of the year so far – only fellow Polydor act Sam Fender has achieved a bigger week one result.
As reported in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, the album outsold the rest of the Top 5 combined. In fact, Mayhem – her first solo studio album in five years – delivered Gaga’s highest first week sale since 2013, when her third album, Artpop, debuted at No.1 on consumption of 65,608 units.
Lady Gaga’s previous chart-toppers are studio sets The Fame (2009), Born This Way (2011), Artpop and Chromatica (2020), along with 2018 Motion Picture Cast Recording, A Star Is Born, which also features Bradley Cooper.
Following the release of Mayhem, The Fame has returned to the Top 50 with consumption up 4.3%. It is her biggest album with consumption to date of 3,479,924 (not including the separately tracked The Fame Monster on 93,510 units).
Mayhem has already generated three Top 10 singles – Abracadabra (which has returned to its No.3 peak with consumption up 23% week-on-week), Disease and Bruno Mars collaboration Die With A Smile (which returned to the Top 20 at No.18 with consumption up 11%).
Gaga also secured a new entry with album track Garden Of Eden, which debuted at No.23.
