K-pop Demon Hunters chasing chart double, gold status and second week as most consumed album in UK

The K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack, released via Island, has become a streaming phenomenon this summer.

Following increasing viewership of the animated Netflix film, the soundtrack and its singles have seen a surge in consumption.

Music Week reported on a 23.1% consumption increase to 14,465 units for K-pop Demon Hunters as it topped the compilations chart (home to soundtracks since 2020) for the fifth consecutive week back in July. It has subsequently posted further week-on-week gains of 11.8% and 8.3% to secure seven straight weeks at the top.

Significantly, K-pop Demon Hunters was also the most consumed album overall last week (17,521 units) ahead of the result for the main artist chart No.1 from Reneé Rapp.

As revealed in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, in the last 100 weeks, the only other time a compilation has held the overall No.1 position was in December 2024, when the soundtrack to the film Wicked trumped artist album No.1, Short N’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter.

As it chases an eighth straight week at the compilations summit, the Netflix film soundtrack looks set to once again eclipse the main album chart-topper based on a slow summer week on the artist rankings. With consumption up 13.5% week-on-week according to the Midweek sales flash, K-pop Demon Hunters could be on its way to its first 20,000-plus units chart week.

The digital-only soundtrack currently has consumption to date of 81,878 (Official Charts Company) – a total that looks set to surpass 100,000 this week delivering gold certification after two months on release (without a physical edition).

Furthermore, Golden by Huntr/X, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, Rei from K-pop Demon Hunters could reclaim the UK No.1 single after being knocked off the summit by Chappell Roan last week. Golden is currently in pole position with 23,831 units, up 8.4% week-on-week. It is only the second No.1 by an act wholly or predominantly from South Korea following Gangnam Style by Psy in 2012.

Soda Pop and Your Idol from the soundtrack are set to maintain their Top 10 placings this week with consumption for each up almost 12% week-on-week.
