Florence + The Machine have secured a fifth No.1 album with the critically acclaimed Everybody Scream (Polydor).
The sixth studio album from Florence Welch and her collaborators joins fellow chart toppers, 2009 debut LP Lungs, 2011’s Ceremonials, 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and 2022’s Dance Fever. 2018’s High As Hope was held off the summit by Drake’s Scorpion.
Everybody Scream opened at the summit with consumption of 31,369 units (15,476 CDs, 8,504 vinyl albums, 1,724 cassettes, 1,370 digital downloads and 4,295 sales-equivalent streams). Florence + The Machine have been consistent in terms of debut weeks in recent years – Everybody Scream’s total was 182 copies ahead of previous LP Dance Fever.
Florence + The Machine’s most consumed album to date is debut LP Lungs (2,015,109 units).

As well as topping the albums chart, Everybody Scream was the biggest release on vinyl of the week. Lily Allen’s big comeback, the digital-only West End Girl (BMG), which moved 4-2, was the most streamed album of the week (18,253 units).
Florence + The Machine also secured two chart entries with album title track Everybody Scream (No.86) and, in the Top 75, Sympathy Magic (No.62). Everybody Scream previously peaked at No.57.
Helen Fleming, director of marketing at Polydor Label Group, said: “Florence + The Machine has always set the bar for artistic ambition and this album is no exception. We’re hugely proud to see the critical and commercial impact of this record translate into an incredible fifth No.1. It's an achievement no less than she deserves, alongside Hannah Giannoulis and Amy Weller in her brilliant management team.
“The fan response has been breathtaking and it’s a reminder that Florence’s connection with her audience is unmatched. With everything she’s poured into this album, Florence has once again proven to be one of the greats!”
