Exclusive: Transgressive Records signs The New Eves

Transgressive Records co-founder Tim Dellow has shared his high hopes for The New Eves, as Music Week can exclusively reveal their signing to the London-based indie.

The hotly tipped Brighton quartet have signed a global recording deal with Transgressive, with their first single for the label, Highway Man, out now.

“We are thrilled that The New Eves chose us to help share their unique vision with the world,” Dellow told Music Week. “They're the kind of band that only comes around once in a blue, or rather blood moon, that can inspire and engage with untethered creativity, magickal incantations and songs that could save your life."

The band's manager, Lucy Fitzgerald, added: “Transgressive are of course a prestigious and forward-thinking record label, celebrated for their steadfast commitment to fostering independent-minded artists such as The New Eves. Collaborating with them presents a unique and exciting opportunity for myself and the band's future. The label’s approach matches up perfectly with the creative spirit, fierce talent and ambition of the band.”

The New Eves are made up of Nina Winder-Lind (cello, guitar, vocals), Ella Oona Russell (drums, flute, vocals), Kate Mager (bass, vocals) and Violet Farrer (violin, guitar, vocals, dance).

Transgressive were the first label that we felt inspired by and to talk to,” said the band. “We felt that we clicked creatively and intellectually immediately.”

Co-produced with Joe Jones and Jack Ogborne (Bingo Fury), Highway Man is billed as “a female-first reimagining of Alfred Noyes’ 1906 poem”.

“In the original version it’s this dude, who’s being the dude, and the girl doesn’t do anything and then dies,” said Winder-Lind. “So I was like, ‘We can’t have that…’”

With their debut album in the works, The New Eves have played landmark shows at Green Man, Wide Awake and The Blue Basement and are set to appear at The Great Escape, Sounds From The Other City, Dot To Dot, Wilderness and End Of The Road. The band's PR contact is Jodie Banaszkiewicz at Stay Golden PR.
