Charli XCX signs to PPL for international neighbouring rights royalties collections

Charli XCX has appointed PPL for the collection of her international neighbouring rights royalties.

She joins recent signings including Ice Spice, Kenya Grace and London Grammar. Charli XCX is among a growing cohort of electronic music acts who have appointed PPL to collect for them internationally – including Becky Hill, Sigala, Joel Corry and Lewis Thompson.

Her sixth album, Brat (Atlantic), reached No.1 and went on to secure multiple awards.

Charli XCX won five BRIT Awards (Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Dance Act & Songwriter Of The Year) and three Grammy Awards (Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Dance Pop Recording & Best Recording Package).

PPL has crunched its airplay data to reveal Charli XCX’s most played tracks across UK radio and TV, with I Love It (the Icona Pop song on which she features) topping the list at 22% of her total airplay this century. Charli XCX’s tracks are broadcast an average of 54 times a day in the UK.

Following the release of Brat last year, Apple is already her 14th most played track, followed by Von Dutch at No. 15.

PPL licenses the use of recorded music for public performance and broadcast in the UK and collects similar royalties on behalf of performers and recording rightsholders around the world.

“PPL will leverage its cutting-edge data processing technology and growing network of 113 international agreements with other CMOs, covering over 95% of the global neighbouring rights market by value, to maximise Charli’s income from the global use of her recordings across radio, TV and public spaces,” said a statement.

Kate Reilly, chief membership & People Officer, PPL, said: “Charli XCX is a British superstar. She has carved out a hugely successful and uncompromising career, making a unique impact on popular culture and paving the way for many more electronic musicians. We’re honoured that she has chosen PPL to collect her neighbouring rights revenues around the world, and we look forward to working with her team to ensure her royalties reflect her global impact.”
