The BPI has announced the results of elections to fill two independent representative places on its Council.

LSO Live’s Becky Lees has been re-elected to serve on BPI Council as an independent member representative. She is joined in the role by Alex Hannaby of Big Machine Label Group/Hybe, who has won election for the first time.

The BPI, the representative voice for the UK’s world-leading record companies and label businesses, ran the online ballot, open to its independent members, from February 1-16.

With Becky returning and Alex joining to strengthen our Council further, I feel sure we can act on our collective mission

The two places contested became vacant after Lees and Femi “Ola” Olasehinde stood down on rotation in January in line with Council rules.

YolanDa Brown OBE DL, BPI chair, said: “We welcome back Becky with all her valued expertise and insights and congratulate Alex on her election as we look forward to the fresh perspectives and skills that she will add to the breadth and depth of experience that is already represented on Council. On behalf of all our members, I would like to extend my sincere thanks Ola for his valued service and contribution, and to the candidates who stood for election.”

Dr Jo Twist OBE, BPI chief executive, added: “As our industry evolves and innovates in response to complex new challenges, it’s vital that we marshal all the talents and insights if we are to realise the full potential of the opportunities that lie ahead. At its heart, music relies on the powerful yet ultimately simple connection that exists between artist and fan, and which is enabled by record labels. Our Council members understand this dynamic, and with Becky returning and Alex joining to strengthen our Council further, I feel sure we can act on this collective mission.”

BPI Council is the BPI’s key management and policy forum. Lees and Hannaby now join Adam Velasco (Cherry Red Records), Michael Neidus (Demon Music), Pat Carr (Remote Control Group) and Pru Harris (Marathon Music Group) in giving voice to hundreds of independent BPI members.

They will serve alongside designated representatives from Sony Music Entertainment UK, Universal Music UK, Warner Music UK, and PPL as well as with a number of co-opted members.

The next BPI Council meeting takes place on March 10.
