Spotify has appointed Chris Whiteley as managing director for Northern Europe.
His remit includes coordinating the marketing, music and podcast functions at Spotify for Northern Europe.
The MD role for the region covers the UK and Ireland at Spotify, which previously had a dedicated managing director – Tom Connaughton exited that role just over a year ago.
Posting on LinkedIn as he started at Spotify, Whiteley said: “Spotify is an amazing company with a service I love and use daily – I am proud to be one of our 675m users! We have a clear purpose and are at such an exciting point in the Spotify journey. I look forward to working with amazing colleagues, leading a highly talented team and deepening our partnerships with our creators. And all in the interest of delighting my fellow Spotify users.”
Whiteley was previously managing director for business development at Netflix in the UK. He spent a decade at the TV/film streaming service.
Whiteley added: “A huge 'thank you' to everyone at Netflix for an amazing 10 years: I am so grateful for your support and friendship, and I will always treasure the amazing experiences we've shared.
“I can't wait to meet everyone at Spotify and start moving up that steep learning curve that comes with an exciting new opportunity!”
In summer 2024, Spotify promoted Federica Tremolada to the role of general manager for Europe.
