Whatclass, a new educational platform for aspiring musicians, has launched with a mission to “reshape how music is taught and learned in the digital age”.
Founded by CEO Austen Smart (above, right) and CPO Scott Smart (above, left), who created Spotify music learning partner platform Playvirtuoso, currently offers short-form classes from Fraser T Smith, Moonchild Sannelly, Joe Goddard, Skream, Sarah Story, Jamz Supernova, Toddla T and Novelist.
We’re empowering real artists to teach the next generation
Austen Smart, Whatclass
“Music education has become either too expensive or too fragmented,” said Austen Smart. “Whatclass is here to change that. We’re empowering real artists to teach the next generation and giving learners the knowledge we wish we had when we started out.”
The launch is backed by a partnership with ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), which enables learners to gain formal accreditation and real qualifications, UCAS points, and industry recognition.
The co-founders have assembled a senior leadership with extensive experience in tech, including Chillingo/Angry Birds, Pirate Studios and Sonos, with courses now live and available to all.
Fraser T Smith’s involvement comes after the announcement of his own new talent incubator for aspiring producers. Subscribers can read our recent interview with Smith here.
