BBC Radio 2 sacks Breakfast Show host Scott Mills over

BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Scott Mills has been sacked by the station, with the BBC saying his shock departure was related to “personal conduct”.

An official statement issued by the corporation read: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC.”

The Mirror broke the story, and has reported that Mills was first taken off air last Tuesday while the BBC undertook efforts to assess the available information. Gary Davies has hosted the show since.

In an email sent to BBC staff this morning, Lorna Clarke, director of music at the BBC, wrote: “I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock. Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV.

“I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.

"Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too. I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I'm able to. While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now.”

Mills earned between £355,000 - £359,999 according to the BBC's latest annual report, making him the 11th biggest paid star at the BBC. As previously reported in Music Week, Mills' weekly audience in Q4 was 6.5m, his highest since taking over from Zoe Ball in late January 2025.

This is a developing story, Music Week has contacted the BBC for more information.
