Apple Music appoints Ole Obermann and Rachel Newman as co-heads

Apple Music has appointed Ole Obermann and Rachel Newman as co-heads of the streaming service.

Obermann and Newman, who was previously Apple Music global head of content, will report to Oliver Schusser, VP of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports and Beats.

Obermann left his role as global head of music at TikTok in February, following five years at the Bytedance-owned company. Tracy Gardner stepped into the top music role.

During Obermann’s time at TikTok, it became a key platform for music. He negotiated a new agreement with Universal Music Group last year following a licensing dispute.

Fellow co-head of Apple Music, Rachel Newman, is a veteran of the tech giant and its music services, having first joined in 2009. The LA-based exec began as a manager for iTunes in Australia & New Zealand’s music division.

Earlier this year, George Ergatoudis stepped down from his role as head of Apple Music, UK & Ireland after seven years.
