Cosey Fanni Tutti to be honoured at Independent Music Awards

Cosey Fanni Tutti, Shed Seven and Bandcamp will all take home trophies at this month’s Independent Music Awards, with the final round of nominees also announced.

Artist and label boss Cosey Fanni Tutti has been revealed as the winner of the Innovator category, while Shed Seven won out in the public vote for Best Live Act and Bandcamp claims the title of Independent Music Champion, in association with PRS.

Taking place at the Roundhouse in London on September 23, the event marks the 15th anniversary of AIM’s awards, with performances on the night from Moonchild Sannelly, Coach Party and Ayanna Witter-Johnson.

Nominees for Best Independent Video (in association with VEVO) include Ezra Collective, Bricknasty, Fontaines DC, Black Honey and Wet Leg, which means that Ezra Collective and Fontaines DC now have the most nominations (three).

The shortlist for the PPL Award for Most Played New Independent Artist features First Time Flyers, In Parallel, NDotz, Popeth and Fat Dog.

The nominees for Best Independent Label are Because Music, Communion Records, Modern Sky UK, Transgressive and XL Recordings, who were victorious at the Music Week Awards earlier this year.

This year’s nominees are a testament to the creativity, passion, and success that defines the independent music community

Meanwhile the Best Independent Record Store category sees Art Beats, A Slice Of Vinyl, Raven Records, Spinning Around Records and Wax And Beans on the shortlist.

The nominees for Best Creative Campaign are NQ Records/Aitch, Jagjaguwar/Bon Iver, XL Recordings/Fontaines DC and Transgressive/Sophie.

AD 93, Clasico Records, FLYSTR8, Submarine Cat Records and Untitled (Recs) are up for Best Boutique Label (in association with Qobuz).

AIM CEO, Gee Davy, said: “The Awards are about celebrating the entire ecosystem that makes independent music thrive, from boundary-pushing artists, visionary labels and creative teams, to record shops and music businesses that platform music, to the fans and communities that keep it thriving.

“This year’s nominees are a testament to the creativity, passion, and success that defines the independent music community. Among our winners, we’re delighted to honour Cosey Fanni Tutti, whose fearless innovation continues to inspire a generation of artists; Shed Seven, recognised for their fan-favourite live performances; and Bandcamp, recognised for their continued role in creating opportunities for independents to connect directly with fans.”
